Google Play was originally released under the name Android Market in 2008, the same year as the [[App Store]]. It began as a simple storefront for Android games, before eventually introducing two spin-off storefronts; Google Books in 2010, and Google Music in 2011. All three storefronts would eventually merge in 2012, with Google renaming the store to its current name. Following the merger, Google Play's geographical reach was also expanded, allowing it to become more widespread. As the storefront progressed, it became the largest mobile game storefront, with a larger range of devices compatible and apps available compared to Apple's App Store, as well as additional formats and alternative gaming options, such as the Google Play Console. Since 2021, however, Google began sunsetting the Play brand by renaming services under the Google moniker, although the main Google Play store name remains.

In 2020, Google Play would see its only released entry, the most recent entry [[Two Realms]]. Despite the [[Nintendo Switch]] being where developer [[Digital Continue]] intended releases for going forward, mobile versions of Two Realms didn't seem out of the question, as there were iOS and Android versions available at launch. Each released port was near-identical outside of performance, and drastic changes were made to the gameplay formula compared to earlier titles. The game itself faced a range of issues during it's 18 month production, including crunch, ideas being changed constantly, control issues, and the rating and an entire trailer getting leaked. The Android release seemed to be the most rushed, as it's released API was too low for modern Android phones to run. Said version was also released unexpectedly onto Google Play earlier than the other releases on November 17th, 2020 - three weeks before the other versions.

Two Realms ended up releasing on December 7th, 2020 to commercial and critical failure. While the Switch version was the most disdained, no port of the game was particularly rated well, with the Android release only receiving 2.7/5 stars on average depending on the region. The last recorded information on total downloads was listed at just over 500 downloads, making the app a commercial failure.
