Shadow Bats are flying shadow enemies in Drawn to Life. They are very common enemies within the first game, appearing in the first levels within the Snow Gate. Despite this, Shadow Bats generally (except for in the City Gate) require tainted land to spawn.

Shadow Bats are flying Shadow enemies in both the original Drawn to Life and Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter (Wii). They are uncommon enemies in both games, only regularly appearing in two out of the four gates in each game.

Shadow Bats will usually remain idle, hanging from a platform until the Hero comes within a radius of them. Once the player is close enough, the Shadow Bat will notice them and fly down to start pursuing  the Hero to damage them. Despite requiring only one attack to defeat, their sporadic flying movement may make them difficult to attack, especially in narrow areas, which also happens to be where they are often found.  They can be defeated before being woken up if the player uses combos, or a shooter correctly.

Shadow Bats are flying Shadow enemies in both the original Drawn to Life and Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter (Wii). They are uncommon enemies in both games, only regularly appearing in two out of the four gates in each game.

In Drawn to Life, Shadow Bats will usually remain idle, hanging from a platform until the Hero comes within a radius of them. Once they are close enough, the Shadow Bat will detach from the platform and pursue the Hero. They only take one hit to defeat, but can be annoying due to the narrow areas they appear in.

In Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter (Wii), they spawn already flying and will track down the Hero when they get close. Again, they can be defeated in a single hit, though the open nature of the level makes them easier to attack and avoid.

TowerIcon.png Appearance[edit]

In Drawn to Life, Shadow Bats are black with a grey outline and two beady, white eyes. In addition, like all other Shadow creatures, Shadow Bats emit Shadow which slowly dissipates into the air.

In Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter (Wii), Shadow Bats are lose their grey outline and stop emitting Shadow, but are otherwise the same.

  • The only way to see hurt sprite is to push the shadow bat using the Y button. Since pushing enemies doesn't damage them, it allows the player to see the hurt sprite of this one hit enemy.
  • Within an early beta of Drawn to Life, Shadow Bats have an additional ability in where they swoop down at the Hero to attack.
    • This ability was removed in later versions of the game, possibly due to the difficulty to evade this attack.
  • A Flash game starring Shadow Bats exists on the Japanese website for Drawn to Life, titled Shadow Bashing. More information can be accessed here.
  • In Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter (Wii), there is a variant of Shadow Bats known as Large Shadow Bats that appear in some levels.
