Primordial Void

The Primordial Void is the domain in which all of reality originates. It is here where the Creator formed the Book of Creation, the vessel in which the Raposa universe, world, and species, was drawn into. Not much is known about the Void due to its imperceptibility. However, according to accounts from Genesis Raposa—including Veila Rheinschild—it is a limitless and conscious meta-dimension from which all Raposa souls are formed from (and return to after death) and the source of all Magic. The fundamental nature of the Void contradicts itself and lends to its imperceptibility; it is just as real as it isn't.

Description

The Void exists outside of reality and thus cannot be observed by living beings. However, accounts of the Void's existence date back to the creation of the Genesis Raposa who wrote agreeing passages about a sort of dream-like existence before awaking for the first time in the newly-created world. Additionally, some Raposa who have been resuscitated recall being transported to what they describe as the Void. These accounts are seldom considered reliable, however, as soul death—when the soul of a Raposa is apparently taken to the Void—only occurs hours following algor mortis at the shortest. However, the most compelling account of the Primordial Void comes from Veila Rheinschild, who is the only Raposa known to have spent considerable time in the Void and return to reality with a relatively intact soul.

Upon her soul becoming trapped within the Codex Perditus, the tome became overcharged with the combined magic of the Book of Life and sought to return to a stable energy state. Within a moment of the Codex's creation it de-materialized, leaving the Raposa reality and becoming a separate entity within the Void. For centuries, Veila's soul remained entombed within the Codex in a state between life and death. Only for a few hours during the magic epoch—a time when magic levels are at their highest point in a century—could the Codex return to the Raposa world in a stable state. It was during one of these epochs that Manere, a citizen Raposa from ForestStream, happened upon the Codex Pertitus and destroyed it, releasing Veila's soul from the tome.

Veila described her time within the Void as a vast cloudy expanse of darkness and stars, with an eclipsed moon-like object acting as the only real light source upon floating islands of rock. However, Veila noted that there are other spaces within the infinite darkness, and that the area she was trapped within was nothing like the one she was a part of before her creation.

Function

Not much is known about the inner-workings of the Primordial Void. However, it serves a few known purposes.

As a source of magic

Magic exists as a constituent part of the Raposa universe and can be found in various concentrations anywhere. Despite this, the magic and physical realms are not completely intermixed. The Raposa universe—all of reality—only exists within the Book of Creation which, in part, only exists within the infinite void. it would appear as though the Void itself is the source of all magic or, rather, is magic itself. Just as the Raposa universe exists within a small subset of the Primordial Void, the Primordial Void—and its magic—exists as a small subset within the Raposa universe.

As a source of life

As made evident from the journals of the Genesis Raposa, the Primordial Void is the source of all Raposa souls. Before a Raposa is born into the world, their soul is separated from the consciousness of the Void and sent to inhabit the body of the Raposa, giving it life. Although the Genesis Raposa all seem to remember this process to an extent—based on their recounts of life before they were created—Raposa who were born of natural means do not possess such memories.

Considering a Raposa's soul is what grants them the ability to manipulate magic around them, it makes sense that the soul is derived from the Void, as it is the innate source of all magic.

As the Creator

It is contested whether the Creator is a separate denizen of the Void or fundamentally indistinguishable from the Void itself.
