He was a member of Michael Simmons' wagon train from Kansas City to New Market and was one of the first settlers of the area. Eventually, he would meet Bavel, a Raposa from another realm, who he would house. Bavel first mentions Robert after traveling between realms using the Book of Imagination. After being threatened at first, Robert stood up for Bavel after hearing Bavel's words. Robert would then invite Bavel into his home for his stay. Throughout the next week, Robert and Bavel would exchange stories and become friends, prompting Robert to ask to join Bavel back in Rapoville. In the Raposa realm, Robert would meet Bavel's family and would begin learning about Rust City from Athys. Over the next few days, Robert would visit Snowy-Snow Mountain with Frostwind, Rapocity with Ibrahim, and the Starlite Works with Elkanah.
While in the Starlite Works, Robert and Bavel would visit Deadwood, who requested information from Robert about New Market.
