Depression is a Shadow character adapted by GuyThatExists that appears in the short story Blank Slates 3 as a minor antagonist. It joins forces with Gingerfre and Selfishness after the fight in the Drawn to Life Village and helps them fight against Tombstone in the Shadow Village. After the fight, Depression double-crosses the group and attempts to assimilate them into Tombstone, but is killed and assimilated itself.
Appearance[edit]
Depression is a small Shadow creature wearing a horned mask that covers its face. It also has a large bubble surrounding itself. In its monster form, its bubble pops and it loses its mask, revealing a Shadow monster with a wispy tail and a large, toothy frown. It has two large, bony hands in this form.
Story[edit]
Depression is first seen just after Gingerfre and Red Dragon part ways. After revealing itself and Selfishness to their mayor, the three of them physically join together to fight Tombstone, who peeks out of the ground to ambush them. During the fight, Depression acts as Gingerfre's shield, encasing both him and Selfishness in its bubble to protect them from attacks.
After Tombstone is taken down by the combined forces of many fighters, Gingerfre travels to the edge of the village to clean up the damages from Tombstone's final attack. The three of them separate and begin cleaning up, however, Tombstone begins reforming while they clean up. While the cleanup crew is distracted, Depression attempts to expand its bubble to encompass the entire crew, though it is only able to encase Gingerfre, Jinxy, Violet, and Hoopz. It slowly descends into the bubble, briefly merging with Tombstone, but it is killed by its captives before it can fully merge with Tombstone.
After its death, Tombstone begins using its body as a puppet, notably using it when Gingerfre, Violet, and Hoopz return to the enshrouded Shadow Village. Tombstone uses Depression's body to steal Mizu's Trident from Gingerfre. After its bubble is popped once more, it begins to transform into a monster and attempt to attack Gingerfre. Eventually, Gingerfre takes Mizu's trident back and uses it to kill Depression, shooting a blast of water into its head.
