Blank Slates

Joe is first heard by the Four Guardians, asking them to send one cut character into the Developer's Grove.

Joe is first seen when Mildew gets sent into the Grove. Joe takes the role of a guide through the Grove, teaching Mildew about what to expect in the games. Later on, he, along with Mildew and David Franco, get overthrown by the Droogle Leader and the rest of the Droogles. The three of them are stabbed and sent into The Void.

In the void, Joe, Franco, and Mildew wake up to see the Four Guardians and explain their situation. Joe asks about the Shadow Hole and Shadow Mari. Before he can get a complete answer, Drakon and Dinofrog attack the group. Drakon captures Joe, Franco, and Mildew and takes them to the Shadow Hole.

At the Hole, Drakon releases the three behind Shadow Mari, and holds them hostage. Eventually, Mayo tells Shadow Mari to shoot a beam of Shadow at Willham, prompting Joe, among others, to ask questions. Mayo breaks down shortly thereafter, and in the aftermath of her breakdown, Joe and Mildew ascend back into the Grove.

Back in the Grove, they are met by Franco, who tells Joe about Hose's request to keep the void as it is. While he considers the request, Willham, Shadow Mari, and the Droogle Leader all appear in the Grove, and Willham hands the Leader off to Joe. Before they leave, Joe grants Hose's wish, and Shadow Mari brings life to the void. Meanwhile, Joe puts the Droogle Leader in charge of progress checks in Drawn to Life: Two Realms as a punishment.

Self-Awareness

Joe is seen again when Aly sneaks into the Dev Grove, and he tries to help recover her memories. When he and the Droogle Leader can't help her, they send her back to the void using the Droogle Leader's Sword.

Salem Rose Pt. 1

Joe is next seen arguing with the Droogle Leader about a hypothetical Two Realms Village, with Joe holding firm in his beliefs that they need to begin work on the village so that when Drawn to Life: Two Realms released, its cut and unused residents would have a place to stay. Miles snuck around him undetected, stabbing himself with the Droogle Leader's Sword. When the sword falls to the ground, both Joe and the Droogle Leader turn around to look at it. Joe jokingly asks if they gave the Droogles psychic powers, and the Droogle Leader denies that he moved the sword.

When Salem Rose, a corrupted version of Miles, appears in the Dev Grove, Joe is absent. Joe is also absent when he leaves the Dev Grove. It is currently unknown where he is during this time.

Salem Rose Pt. 2

Joe is first seen by Milfre when she arrives in the Dev Grove, asking him about the void. He waves her off, stating that unless she plans to kill Salem Rose, she needs to leave. When Milfre admits that she plans on fighting him, he calls Willham and Shadow Mari up to the Grove. When Milfre returns with Kamalah and Jowee, Joe sets the well for 1982, and watches as they leave.

He is later seen after Salem Rose is killed, when Willham and Shadow Mari bring the Raposa back to the Grove to recover. Joe sets the well for 2013 and says goodbye to Stampy, next setting the well for 2042. He says goodbye to the rest of the Raposa, leaving him and Willham alone in the Grove. When Willham asks to return to the void, Joe tells him that the Droogle Leader's Sword is missing.

Blank Slates 2

After being joined by Shadow Mari, the three of them begin to search the Grove for the Droogle Leader, but cannot find him. Joe realizes that if they can't find the Droogle Leader, they need to instead find Miah. He calls Aly and Franco Key to the Grove so they can find Miah in Belleview, revealing that he took the role of Mike's father, Mr. Row. He sends them and Shadow Mari off to find him, while he and Willham stay behind to search for the Droogle Leader.

When the group returns, they bring GenericChallenge with them. Joe questions GenericChallenge about Miah's whereabouts, and he agrees to tell them as long as he can continue to roam free in canon. Joe agrees to his terms and GenericChallenge reveals that Miah is trapped in his basement. Joe sends the group back to get him, and they return Miah to the grove. Miah gives the group a new tool to send people to the void, and everyone but him and Joe return to their homes.

Now alone with Miah, Joe asks if he can go through with causing the crash that kickstarts the Drawn to Life series. Miah reveals that he's hesitant, so Joe decides to erase his memory of being a dev so that he could live out his final moments in peace. Miah thanks Joe and his memory is erased, so Joe sends him to the carnival with the rest of his family. Joe then gets back to searching for the Droogle Leader.

Ignore what Jeremiah says... I hope you enjoyed the story!

Attention Guardians! We have decided to bring back one cut character for the next game!
The four of you will decide who it is, and report back to your two screeners. Thank you for your services!

–Joe

Welcome to the Dev Grove Mildew! My name is Joe and I’ll be guiding you through the creation process.

–Joe

Hey, what’s going on here?

–Joe

Right now, our only hope is finding the screeners. You four should know where they are, right?

–Joe

How come she’s been alive when we only gave the four of y’all life?

–Joe

She’s the reason we hired the Droogles in the first place, to keep her out.

–Joe

Well, then, we have our answer. You remember your line David?

–Joe

Attention guardians! Good news, I’ll grant your request because it’s the least we could do after seeing how you all used to live.
I would like to sincerely apologize for our negligence and hope we can have better relationships in the future!

–Joe

I think we can take care of him. In fact, I know the perfect job for him in Two Realms!

–Joe

There’s no way that’s Alana, right?

–Joe

Well let’s not just stand here, help me pull her up.

–Joe

Alright Aly, it’s clear you don’t remember who you are, so I need you to listen to me.
You’re a character in a video game, and you were sent into that video game by me, Joe.

–Joe

We’re in the Developer’s Grove, but you’re in the void Alana. Say hello to some of your old friends!

–Joe

If we don’t, then all of these people won’t have a place to live!

–Joe

The game is scheduled to come out in a year.
We got lucky with the other three villages, but we won’t be so lucky with this one. We need to start building it now.

–Joe

We didn’t plan to give you any psychic powers, did we?

–Joe

Ma’am I’m sure your problem is really bad, but you don’t belong here, and I’m trying to deal with three problems at once right now.
One of my employees ran away with our only entrance to the void, our Guardians are dead, and GenericChallenge is still at large.
Unless your old friend is that weird, aged up Miles that calls himself Salem Rose, you need to go back down that well.

–Joe

I have no idea how he evolved past his coding, but killing him is the only solution I can think of.

–Joe

No clue who she is or how she plans to kill him, but she’s here and she offered.

–Joe

Welcome back you three! Is Salem Rose taken care of?

–Joe

Good to hear! I’ll set the well for 2042 and all of you can head back home!

–Joe

Alright, the well’s set for 2013. Anyone else not from 2042?

–Joe

About that…

–Joe

About that, the sword is missing.

–Joe

I haven’t done anything yet. With GenericChallenge still on the loose and Milfre coming to visit, I haven’t had time to even leave this terminal.

–Joe

Well, since that didn’t work, there is one last thing we could try. We can always go find Miah.

–Joe

Welcome back Franco! It’s been a while, hasn’t it?

–Joe

Well first off, he decided to do what you two did. He acted as an agent in the games, but after we released The Next Chapter, he fell off our radar.

–Joe

Unlike you two, Miah was never disguised as an NPC. It’s incredibly unlikely that you’ll be able to find him without a specific location.

–Joe

He went in as Mike’s dad. As far as we know, he died in the crash. Which is where you two come in. I’m sending you back to before the crash happened so you can find Miah and bring him back for a bit.

–Joe

Well first off, you can tell us where Miah is, then we can figure out what to do about all the stuff you’ve moved.

–Joe

I appreciate your concern, but you do know that Miah is supposed to cause that crash, right?

–Joe

It was Mike’s game, that plot wouldn’t’ve worked at all! Now, GenericChallenge, where’d you hide Miah.

–Joe

We don’t know what the future of the franchise holds. We could send him somewhere and accidentally drop him in the middle of Drawn to Life 4 without even knowing!

–Joe

Normally I could, but ever since Salem Rose and Milfre showed up, everything past Two Realms is fuzzy, minus a few distinct years. I have no idea what that means, but it scares me a bit.

–Joe

Those are all entirely possible, but I can’t say for sure. All I know is that I don’t know where the franchise goes from here, which means nowhere is safe for him to go.

–Joe

Great, your one good idea wasn’t even yours.

–Joe

Well how about we give it a try? You guys ready to go home?

–Joe

You three can head back through the well to get home.

–Joe

If you don’t mind, I might have an idea. You remember what we used to do to people we sent into games?

–Joe

You’re going to die Miah. Your car is going to do a complete flip, and you’re going to be ejected. The least I can do is let you spend your final moments with your family, spend your final moments enjoying a carnival, not worried about the ride home. Plus, I’m not gonna give you much of a choice.

–Joe

See ya around. Now then, let’s find this dog.

–Joe
